Making Your Home A Smart Home

Since moving into our new home, the weather has been down right chilly. I hurt my ankle this weekend, so I've been spending a lot of my time in our main level's living room, which is right off my favorite room in the house~ our morning room.
It has really big beautiful windows that provide us with the most spectacular views, but the downside is that it can get quite drafty.

So, I've contemplated turning on the heat a few times. Which the hubby has not been too pleased with. He is constantly warm & I'm always freezing, so it makes for some long negotiating over climate control. And its reminded me that Winter is just around the corner. And with living in a bigger place now, we will be spending quite a bit more money on Energy this year.

So, here's what we are doing to make our home a bit more energy efficient & hopefully save us some money.

1. Getting Smart power strips to combat energy vampires. Because even when your appliances are turned off, they are still using electricity.

2. Replacing the shower-heads in our bathroom(s) with low flow shower-heads.

3. Switching out our traditional bulbs for CFLs or LEDs.

4. Installing light dimmers to make our light bulbs last longer.

5.Installing a smart thermostat, like the Nest Learning Thermostat . This is on my wishlist! It would be awesome to be able to control our home's climate all year long & from the comfort of our smartphone!

These are some really easy & practical fixes for saving energy & money:). But if you're looking to save more, I have some Good news! Direct Energy is hosting a sweepstakes where 5 lucky winners will win a Nest Learning Thermostats!
