Garage Makeover & Fast Track

One of the biggest trouble areas since we moved into our home has been our garage. Mainly because it had little to no-organization and every time we'd step foot inside it we would just add more junk to it. It essentially became a graveyard for all the things we couldn't manage to bring inside {it was chaotic for sure}. It was totally neglected and in desperate need of a makeover.
So, a couple weekends ago my husband and I finally tackled it and made it a functional space again. We redesigned the layout & gave it the organization it needed. It now provides us with ample storage, easy access and hopefully a clear way to keep it clean.
Before we get started though, you should probably see what our garage looked like before it was transformed{so you can fully understand the chaos we were working with:)}.
It was so cluttered with toys, gear and of course with remnants of all the projects we had been working on, that we couldn't even fit both of our cars in.
Okay, so there were a couple of things we did that really made a difference. The first was installing the Rubbermaid® FastTrack® Garage Organization System and the second was creating a mudroom-unit {more on this later} to catch all of our shoes, clothing and accessories.
The reason I opted for the FastTrack® system is because it's sleek, great for maximizing wall space and is incredibly easy to install. Plus, now that the kiddos are out of school, they are going to be wanting to spend all of their time outdoors playing. So, I wanted to make sure their toys & gear in the garage were easily accessible.
Before we got started on this project though we had to clear everything out & sort through it. Once we had a better idea of what we had in there, we could clearly see the storage needs and decide on a layout that would work well for us.
Then we simply made a stop by The Home Depot and got all of our supplies, then hurried on home to install everything.
We started by locating the studs.
Then installed the metal base using the FastTrack® Garage Hardware Pack, drill & level. Note: you need one pack to mount a 48" FastTrack® Rail and two packs to mount an 84" FastTrack® Rail.
Once the base was in place, we simply slid the black plastic piece over it {for a clean finished look} and snapped our hook attachments into place.
I love that the system comes with interchangeable hooks and baskets so you can customize it to fit your needs as well as easily rearrange it whenever you want to switch things up {which is every other day if you're me:)}.
It’s also great  because it enables you to put hooks across the entire wall and not just where the studs are, so you fully utilize your wall space. My favorite attachments thus far have been the Rubbermaid® FastTrack® Vertical Bike Hook and the Rubbermaid® FastTrack® Multi-Purpose Hooks!
Now, the other thing we added to our space, was this mud room unit {DIY tutorial coming}. Mainly, because we needed to have an organized catch all area, and our super tiny laundry room that we walk through to go inside the home just isn't cutting it anymore.
I think my favorite part of this whole unit are these antler-style hooks. They really give the piece a custom one-of-a-kind feel!
I just love how these inexpensive plastic baskets turned out. They use to be a dingy ol' white color before I spray painted them gold. I'm always amazed by what a little paint can do to transform decor!
Speaking of paint, this door & step also got a nice dose of chalk paint to brighten the space a bit.
I just love how easy it was to transform our space with the FastTrack® system! If you're looking to update or completely re-do your garage {maybe as a Father's Day gift}, be sure to check them out!
