A Few Thoughts on Marriage

I shared a picture on Instagram yesterday of Kyle & I from our date night at the Western & Southern. It was such a welcomed treat to get out and spend some quality time together!
And late last night as everyone slept, I couldn't help but reflect on our journey of finding each other, our marriage and our family.

Some of you might already know this, but the tennis courts is where Kyle and I met over ten years ago. We've now been married for nine years, but I still find myself thinking about the wonders of love, it's power and it's direct involvement in this thing called marriage. We've been at it for a few years now and I've learned so much about myself in the process.

With any relationship, all parties have needs. Kyle and I could easily spend all of our time meeting our own individual needs and we would both be taken care of. But, how much sweeter would it be if we both spent our time meeting each others needs? In either case , all our needs are met, but in the second scenario, we spend our time serving each other. Something profound I've learned & know to be true is you really come to love the people you serve (as well as the people who serve you).

Its a hard thing to do...and it takes quite a bit of humility & trust. Some days it means I don't get to everything I'd like to do, other days it means Kyle skips a trip to the gym to stay home with the girls as I run an errand or go to a doctor's appointment. But, overall, we are better for it {the small gestures of love, kindness and service}. We are kinder when we spend our time laboring for others & each other. And in general, just happier people when we forget about our own needs and focus on those of others.

Today, I've been feeling particularly grateful for the kindness in our marriage, for a sweet husband that puts my needs & those of our children's before his own, and serves us unceasingly! How did we get so lucky?
In other news, Saturday was the opening day for the tournament and consequently Kids Day, so we all got to enjoy the tournament together.
The girls love getting to do all the little activities they have set up and of course eat lots of ice cream. They did have to do quite a bit more waiting then in previous years but they were in good company and fared just fine! They are already looking forward to their next visit😁!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you have a wonderful day!
