Ultimate Backyard Playdate & Snacks!

Does your child have a million toys, and still gets bored?
We have two very energetic girls in our home, who love to play {both indoors & outdoors}. But, like most kids their age, they quickly get tired of playing with the same old toys. Which can be particularly trying at times, but this summer I've decided just to make the best of it & help them re-discover their toys {while letting them use some of their excess energy}.

I took matters into my own hands last week, by setting up a DIY backyard obstacle course, games and relay. Some of these took some time to setup, but for the most part they were all pretty easy to put together. The best part was that 90% of our backyard shenanigans was made with things we already owned and had lying around in our playroom {proving that you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a good time ;)}!

The kids had so much fun going through the obstacle course, and I can assure you it was just as entertaining standing on the sidelines watching them wiggle and crawl through the obstacles {if not more}! They all had a blast with all the challenges! The first obstacle was the army crawl. This was not as hard a challenge as I originally thought it would be {the older kids flew right through this}!
Obstacle courses are always a big hit & are relatively easy to put together! Plus they have so many benefits to our kids! They help build important gross motor skills, develop muscles, develop coordination, help increase endurance as well as confidence, basically, all the benefits of outdoor play and physical activity combined:).
Next up was the balance beam. I simply wrapped the beam in this darling polka dot wrapping paper, to make it tie-in to the rest of the party. I love the idea of this, but when I saw the kids doing this obstacle, I think it was a little harder for them because it had less grip for them. So, next time we do this, I'll definitely be leaving out the wrapping paper!
Some of the other obstacles we had were: the tunnel crawl, jumping on rings, ladder-run and slalom course.
We also had some games the kids could do while they were waiting for their turn. Like ball toss and trampoline basketball.
Here's another look of the bouncy ball relay course we set up. I think this was their favorite part of the party!
Here's a look at our group before we got started with our backyard festivities.
One of the biggest reasons I do these fun events for our kiddos, is because I don't want my kids to forget how fun playing is! I know it sounds counter-intuitive but play is disappearing at home, in school and in communities. 70% of moms played outside when they were kids, but now only 31% of their kids play outside today. We have become a very tech-happy society and now our kids would rather play indoors with their electronics then actually experience life, play, and use their imagination. I strongly believe that balanced and active play lays the foundation for a skilled, healthy, resilient and successful society!
CLIF Kid is dedicated to reclaiming play. And encouraging boys and girls everywhere to get back outside, push their boundaries and feed their adventures.
CLIF Kid considers outdoor play to be especially important as our society addresses obesity, the need to improve mental health and wellness, and aims to build creative and successful future generations.
One thing I didn't fully account for is how quickly the kids would complete the obstacles and be ready for their snacks! I thought they would be playing for over an hour before they got hungry, boy I was wrong!
Luckily I set everything up before everyone arrived, so we were ready to eat our yummy snacks right as they finished up the last of the obstacle course. We had lots of grapes, strawberries, blueberries water and CLIF Kid Zbar®.
This Iced Oatmeal Cookie variety is Hayden's favorite. What I really like about CLIF Kid snacks, is that they feature nutrients that active kids need in flavors they crave.
CLIF Kid snacks are nutritious, made with organic ingredients, without any high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors and are crafted specifically for active kids {like mine}!

This backyard bash was very near perfection in our book, providing plenty of space to play, the ability to implement rowdy & messy activities; while creating wonderful memories! Best of all, after it was all said & done, the clean up was a breeze!
We will definitely be doing this again!
