Our Best Grillable Veggie Burger

I have been playing around with this recipe for quite a while, trying to make a veggie burger that is easy, flavorful & grillable is harder than you might think.

With the football season upon us, I thought there was no better time to master the veggie burger and get ready for all those fun tailgating parties. Friends, I'm happy to report that all the work finally paid off and I’ve found the solution to the fragile veggie burger problem. Plus, It’s so easy.
Okay, I can't take all the credit-The answer comes in a pretty green package.These tasty veggie burgers are made using the MorningStar Farms® Spicy Black Bean Burger Value Pack. These burgers are firm, with a nice beefy texture that takes on the char and smoke of the grill, and gives you a true hamburger experience without the meat. I can see why it's America's #1 Veggie Burger!

This burger requires just 10 ingredients and comes together in 15 minutes. For this recipe, you can fire up the grill (or skillet). I tested these patties on both and I'm happy to report they're amazing either way.  But I do prefer the flavor the grill adds when it blackens the patties.


Ready in 15 minutes

Serves 4 people


  • MorningStar Farms® Spicy Black Bean Bean Burger Value Pack
  • 2 Avocados
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 white onion, chopped
  • 5 Tomatillos, husked
  • 2 Jalapenos
  • 2 Japanese Chile pods
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 cup cilantro
  • Buns


  1. Start by making  your tomatillo salsa in a blender. Combine your tomatillos, jalapenos, chile pods, garlic, cilantro,  ½  of the  onion , ½ cup of water, pinch of salt and blend until smooth.
  2. Next, you will make your guacamole by cutting avocados in half, removing the pits and scooping out the avocado pulp into a bowl. Thoroughly mash the avocados, then season with salt, and add in your chopped tomatoes, onions and cilantro. Mix well and set aside
  3. Fire up the grill and place your patties on medium-low heat. Cook thoroughly and be sure to flip patties every two-three minutes.
  4. Next, you’ll assemble the burger. Place patty on your favorite bun, top with guacamole, and tomatillo salsa and enjoy!

These burgers are quite the crowd pleasers, especially when paired with hearty sweet potato wedges, and a harvest salad. My husband who is not vegetarian devoured these and said they were delicious so that just goes to show you that you don't have to be a vegetarian to enjoy these;).
