Healthy Gut = Healthy Baby

This post is sponsored by Evivo but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you may already know that Adelle has been struggling with severe colic and GI issues since birth. What you may not know is that all four of our daughters have had similar issues as newborns.

Today, I'll be talking about the correlation between a healthy gut and a healthy baby. Hopefully our story can help empower mothers who have severely colicky infants and give them another avenue to pursue.

Did you know that 9 out of 10 babies born in the US have a low functioning gut microbiome due to the lack of good bacteria needed for a healthy gut?

With all of our children having had reflux and constipation as infants (with varying levels of severity), this statistic wasn't hard to believe.

When Adelle was born we anticipated she would also struggle with those same issues, but we hoped she would be spared from that pain.

Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I think her first month of life, she cried between 4-5 hours on a regular basis- that's with me holding her and rocking her. She just couldn't be consoled and it hurt my heart to see her writhing in pain.

After tinkering with my diet and seeing no affect in Adelle's condition, I moved on to keeping her feedings on a strict schedule. I hoped that if I didn't over-feed her it would ease her tummy issues, but we still didn't see any improvement. Part of me also thought that as she gained weight her little muscles would develop and she would outgrow her issues. But they've persisted.

We ended up taking her to a G.I. specialist and figuring out that she had two separate issues causing her pain. Two things were recommended for Adelle, the first was to get a probiotic to help her gut mature, and the second was to help stimulate her rectum (to aid her in passing bowels).

The probiotic that we used is made by Evivo and the specific strain is called Activated B. infantis. Evivo makes the only probiotic clinically proven to repopulate baby's gut with the good bacteria they need 100% of the time while reducing bad bacteria by 80%.

I was so unaware about probiotics before Adelle, but I've been doing a ton of research on it since my visit with our G.I. specialist and it's brought me so much comfort to find something to help her (outside of pain medication).

Did you know that the first 6 months are critical for proper immune and metabolic development? Too much bad bacteria in the gut early in life is linked to metabolic and immune disorders such as asthma, eczema, allergy, Type 1 Diabetes and obesity down the road.
Using Evivo's probiotic is easy, you simply mix the B. infantis packets with breastmilk and insert into the syringe provided. I know there's other probiotics out on the market but Evivo is the only one specifically formulated to partner with breastmilk. You see Evivo transforms the nutrients in breast milk into valuable nutrition for baby.
Good bacteria is critical for the development of a healthier metabolism and stronger immune system. Without B. infantis in baby's gut, bad bacteria can thrive. Make sure baby is set up from Day 1 with the good gut bacteria needed with Evivo!

Also, how cute is this double rocker? I bought it a few weeks after Adelle's birth (when it was clear that she had severe colic and it wasn't going anywhere, anytime soon). It is incredibly comfortable if you're in the market for a new rocker!
